At Shaka Isla, the safety of our participants is at the heart of every excursion. Our guides, experienced and mostly trained in first aid, apply strict protocols before, during, and after each outing to ensure a secure and compliant experience with Turismo Activo standards in Lanzarote.
Our scooters are systematically checked, and our routes are designed to be accessible in case of emergency (paved roads for ambulances or 4x4 vehicles).π 1. Before the Activity: Preparation and Checks
π§ Equipment Check
Before each excursion, we systematically verify:
-
Electric scooters:
- Brake condition (braking test over 5 meters).
- Tires: Pressure and wear (replacement if necessary).
- Batteries: Charge level (minimum 80% for long routes).
- Lighting: Functionality of front and rear lights (mandatory for evening outings).
- Speed limiter: Maximum speed 25 km/h.
-
Helmets:
- Fit: Adjusted for each participant (correct size, tight straps).
- General condition: No cracks, intact shell.
π’ Mandatory Safety Briefing
A 10-15 minute briefing is held before each departure. It includes:
-
Route presentation: Key points, planned stops, areas to avoid.
-
Equipment test and riding trial:
- Verification of participants' skill level (handlebar control, balance).
- Test of equipment use (brakes, acceleration, speed regulation).
-
Basic rules:
- Minimum distance: 5 meters between each participant.

- Strict prohibitions:
- Using a phone while riding.
- Smoking during the activity.

- Emergency stop procedure (raise hand + shout "STOP").
π¦οΈ External Conditions Check
- Weather:
- Cancellation if wind > 30 km/h or heavy rain (risk of slipping).
- Check via AEMET (Spanish Meteorological Agency) 2 hours before departure using a phone with network coverage.
- Path conditions:
- Visual inspection of tracks for potholes, stones, or slippery areas.
π 2. During the Activity: Supervision and Monitoring

- Repair: Attempt to repair the scooter (punctured tire).
- Location: Coordinates transmitted to the other client.
- Total duration: 40 min (including 30 min for repair).
- Improvements:
- A first puncture repair system was tested in July 2025, but was inconclusive.
